Programs and Services

Dignity Dialogues offers several ways to learn and participate in civil dialogue. Each one is designed to overcome divisiveness, prejudice, and acrimony by practicing empathic listening and honoring human dignity. Most can be delivered either in person or in virtual meetings.

While we encourage diversity among participants, our services can also be effective with homogeneous groups that simply want to prepare for difficult conversations within their communities.

Dignity Dialogues

Guided dialogues between members of opposing sides.

Participants learn to listen intently and strive to understand each other as they discuss their agreements and disagreements under the watchful eye of a neutral moderator. Civil dialogue ground rules establish a safe and respectful environment. Dignity Dialogue sessions are scheduled on demand with as few as two individuals. If there are more than two participants, pairs will take turns engaging in dialogue while others observe and offer constructive feedback.

Dignity Roundtables

Community conversations around controversial issues.

Roundtables are similar to Dialogues except the interaction occurs among a group of participants instead of between pairs of individuals. Ground rules and a neutral moderator ensure safe and respectful civil dialogue. A Roundtable may be more comfortable for some than a Dialogue because each side has sympathizers as well as antagonists.

Dignity Workshops

Instructional and experiential training in peaceful dialogue.

Workshops provide opportunities for participants to dive deeper into concepts that form the building blocks to honor dignity and build bridges. Workshops may be scheduled as stand alone sessions or as a series of up to six two-hour sessions over a period of weeks. The curriculum can be customized on demand to fit the audience.

Dignity Mixers

Conflict-neutral events or community service activities among people from opposing sides.

Mixers offer opportunities for people of varying backgrounds and belief systems to meet each other on neutral ground. Divisive issues are put on hold while participants work together towards a common goal. It is often easier to see the dignity and humanity of others outside of conflict zones. Mixers can lay the groundwork for peaceful dialogue around divisive issues.
